In addition to kerbside recycling, green waste and residual waste collections, residents can also compost their organic waste, which avoids sending it for energy recovery or landfill – and instead creates nutrient-rich fertiliser for agriculture.
By converting garden waste into compost, instead of sending it to an energy-from-waste facility, it reduces the amount of methane and carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere.
If you are unable to compost at home, Merseyside’s household waste recycling centres accept green waste. You can find more information at www.merseysidewda.gov.uk/find-a-local-recycling-centre.
